The arrival of Turkish citizens to the United States began primarily after the 1950s. Those who could be considered the first generation began migrating not only to Europe but also to the United States during this period. The Turks who came to America in the 1960s were more educated than those who migrated to Europe. After the 1980s, there was a significant increase in the number of people living in New York, one of the states with the highest Turkish population density.<\/p>

Most of those who come here are young, single people. Initially, they often act with the intention of working in the United States for a certain period and then returning to T\u00fcrkiye. At this stage, no significant demand for building a mosque, an essential element of settled life for Muslims, appears to have emerged. Our people try to meet this need to a certain extent with the help of other Muslims in their region's mosques. Over time, different conditions emerge, and ideas gradually change. Then, the idea of settling in America begins to take hold among our people. Ultimately, the idea of owning a mosque of our own became a serious expectation for Turkish citizens on Long Island after the 2000s. During this period, when the need for mosque-centered services became clearly felt by the people of Long Island, the increasing demand was conveyed to the relevant authorities of the Republic of Turkey. Our government quickly responded to this request. Under the direction of the Washington Religious Services Consultant, the New York Religious Services Attach\u00e9's Office conducted work on Long Island, and these efforts yielded positive results.<\/p>

Thanks to the efforts of our valued community, who had long harbored a desire to build a mosque while living on Long Island, the support of the Diyanet Foundation, and most importantly, the grace of God, our existing service building, which was then a church in Port Jefferson, and its annexes were purchased together. The building, which was renovated to meet the requirements of a mosque, began operating under the auspices of the Presidency of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Turkey with the first prayer held during Ramadan in 2009. May God have mercy on those who contributed to the purchase, restoration, and subsequent services of our mosque, and those who have passed away. May He grant long and blessed lives to the living and healing to the sick. May God facilitate the work of those of us in this country who seek to earn our livelihood lawfully, and may He bless our homes. May He make us and our families among those who gather under the umbrella of our mosques in this world and under the banner of the Messenger of God in the hereafter.<\/p>

The Long Island Mevlana Mosque serves as the only Diyanet mosque on Long Island. Covering approximately 8 hectares, the Long Island Mevlana Mosque currently serves approximately 7,000 Turkish families and tens of thousands of Muslim families. The Long Island Mevlana Mosque is open five times a day, offers weekend classes, and hosts iftar meals for approximately 250 people daily during Ramadan. The Long Island Mevlana Mosque offers funeral services to all Muslims. Its programs and services make it the most active mosque in the Long Island region.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
