New Haven Diyanet Mosque – A spiritual place where solidarity, unity and togetherness are reinforced

The New Haven Diyanet Mosque is located at 531 Middletown Ave. in New Haven, Connecticut, USA, home to Yale University, the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States, founded in 1701. Founded in 2009 by the Turkish-American Muslim community to provide religious, educational, and social services to Muslims in Connecticut, the mosque has been chaired by Haydar Elevli since its inception.

 

Our mosque, which was subjected to an arson attack in 2019 and suffered extensive damage as a result of the arson, was rebuilt with the support of the public and the authorities and continues to serve.

 

The New Haven Diyanet Mosque, open for prayers five times a day, is a significant house of worship and cultural center serving the Muslim community in New Haven. Also notable for its striking minarets, the mosque hosts a variety of religious and cultural events.

 

The New Haven Diyanet Mosque not only meets the religious needs of Muslims in the region but also serves as a cultural bridge by organizing events that bring together diverse segments of society. The mosque boasts a spacious prayer area incorporating elements of Turkish architecture, and its floor is adorned with carpets bearing traditional Turkish motifs. Additionally, the building houses three classrooms used for various educational activities, particularly weekend courses, a guesthouse, and two halls for various events (conferences, meetings, wedding ceremonies, iftars, etc.).

 

In our mosque;

Weekend Quran Courses, which include Quran, Tajweed, Memorization, Basic Religious Information and Turkish lessons, as well as Quran, Tajweed, Memorization, Tafsir, Catechism, Hadith lessons, evening lessons and Summer Quran Course training programs for young people, women and men, and various conversation programs are held. .

Various programs are also held on holy nights and special religious and national days, as well as an iftar program every evening throughout Ramadan, along with special iftar and suhoor programs for youth and children. Since the mosque's founding, religious officials appointed by the Presidency of Religious Affairs have undertaken the spiritual guidance of the community, carrying out various religious, national, and cultural activities, as well as educational activities. The religious teachers appointed by the Presidency of Religious Affairs since the mosque's founding have been Osman Memiş, Muhammet Naci Efe, and Mikail Keskin, and currently, Muhammet Çöpür and Mümine Kuşçu Çöpür continue their duties.
